First: According to magnitude I divide the whalesinto three primary BOOKS (subdivisible intoCHAPTERS), and these shall comprehend them all,both small and large.

第一　我按照大小,把鯨分為主要的三篇(各篇再分為章),這就把它們不論大小都包括在內(nèi)了。

I. THE FOLIO WHALE; II. the OCTAVO WHALE; III.the DUODECIMO WHALE.

(一)對(duì)開(kāi)鯨;(二)八開(kāi)鯨;(三)十二開(kāi)鯨。

As the type of the FOLIO I present the SpermWhale; of the OCTAVO, the Grampus; of theDUODECIMO, the Porpoise.

我以抹香鯨,逆戟鯨,小鯨分別作為對(duì)開(kāi)型,八開(kāi)型,十二開(kāi)型的代表。

真甲鯨和砧頭鯨的鯨,也就是現(xiàn)代法國(guó)稱為"卡沙洛"。德國(guó)稱為"波茨魚(yú)"(都是按照法德兩國(guó)對(duì)于鯨的稱法的音譯。)和那個(gè)字音累贅的學(xué)名:疣豬屬鯨。
