先生？泥？泥，先生？那是爛泥呀；我們還是讓挖陰溝的人去弄泥吧，先生。

The fellow's impious! What art thou sneezing about?

這家伙真邪惡！你干啥不斷地打噴嚏？

Bone is rather dusty, sir.

骨頭總是灰蒙蒙的，先生。

Take the hint, then; and when thou art dead, never bury thyself under living people's noses.

那么，記住，等你死的時候，可千萬別當(dāng)著活人的臉下土呀。

Sir?—oh! ah!—I guess so; so;—yes, yes—oh dear!

先生？——??！呀！——我想是這樣；不錯——啊，天哪！

Look ye, carpenter, I dare say thou callest thyself a right good workmanlike workman, eh? 聽著，木匠，也許你自稱是個規(guī)規(guī)矩矩、正正派派的、有本領(lǐng)的匠人吧？唔，那么，如果我一跨上你給我做的這條腿，是不是就可以充分表現(xiàn)出你的能耐，使我覺得在這個地方又長上了一條腿呢；噯，木匠師傅，我說的是我先前失掉的那條腿，那條有血有肉的腿呀。你難道不能把那個老亞當(dāng)攆走嗎？

Truly, sir, I begin to understand somewhat now. Yes, I have heard something curious on that score, sir; how that a dismasted man never entirely loses the feeling of his old spar, but it will be still pricking him at times. May I humbly ask if it be really so, sir?

啊，真的，先生，我這下可開始有點(diǎn)弄明白啦。不錯，在這方面，我已經(jīng)聽到過一些希奇的說法；折桅斷桿的人總是永遠(yuǎn)忘不了他的舊材，還時常刺痛著他的心呢。請問是不是真的這樣，先生？
