偉大的朋友

As I am now a senior high school student, I have agreat many friends,

盡管我現(xiàn)在已經(jīng)是一個(gè)高中生了，有很多朋友。

but there is one whom I prize over all the rest.

但有一個(gè)朋友是我一生該珍重的。

I first made his acquaintance when I began to go toschool.

當(dāng)我剛邁進(jìn)校門(mén)時(shí)就和他相識(shí)了，

He has been my constant companion ever since.

從那以后，他成為我忠實(shí)的伴侶。

Though he is serious in appearance,he never fails to be interesting.

雖然他面容嚴(yán)肅，但是很風(fēng)趣。

Often he is clever, sometimes even merry and gay.

它很聰明，有時(shí)甚至瘋瘋癲癲。

He is the most knowledgeable friend a person could have.

他是任何人能夠結(jié)識(shí)的學(xué)識(shí)最為淵博的朋友。

He knows virtually every language of the world,all the events of history,

他懂得世界上所有語(yǔ)言所有的歷史事件，

and the words of all the great poets and philosophers.

還有所有不朽詩(shī)人和哲學(xué)家的至理名言。

A kindly benefactor,

作為一個(gè)施與者，

he is admired and enjoyed by everyone who makes his acquaintance.

他深受所有與之交友的人的贊美和喜愛(ài)。

To me,he has been a great teacher as well as a friend.

對(duì)我來(lái)說(shuō)，他既是一個(gè)老師又是一個(gè)朋友。

He first taught me the secrets of my own language and then those of others.

他首先教會(huì)了我母語(yǔ)的奧秘，隨后是其他語(yǔ)言的奧秘。

With these keys he showed us how to unlock all the arts and sciences of man.

用這些知識(shí)，他向我演示了如何解開(kāi)所有人類(lèi)藝術(shù)和科學(xué)之謎。

My friend is endlessly patient.

我的朋友很耐心。

Dull though I may be I can return to him again and again,

不管我怎么笨，我可以一次又一次地請(qǐng)教他，

and he is always ready to teach me.

而他也是時(shí)刻準(zhǔn)備著教我。

When I am bored,he entertains me.When I am dispirited,he lifts me up.

當(dāng)我煩惱時(shí)，他讓我愉悅;當(dāng)我沮喪時(shí)，他讓我振奮;

When I am lonely,he keeps me company.

當(dāng)我孤獨(dú)的時(shí)候，他常伴我左右。

He is a friend not only to me but to millions around the world.

他不僅僅是我的朋友，而且還是全世界成千上萬(wàn)人的朋友。

Shall I tell you his name? His name is"reading".

我該告訴你他的名字嗎?他的名字是"閱讀"。
