Todd: Hey, Jessica, what are you going to have for dinner tonight?

Jessica: Tonight is sushi night.

Todd: Oh, you're going to sushi.

Jessica: Well, actually no. My girlfriend and I, we buy sushi every Tuesdays and Fridays, and those are sushi night.

Todd: Oh, Wow

Jessica: Yeah, Yeah. It's because, well we buy it in the supermarket and bring it home cause it's cheaper than eating in a restaurant.

Todd: Yeah, it is a lot cheaper.

Yeah

Todd: OK, what sushi do you eat?

Jessica: Well, we always buy the box, which has a little bit of everything. And I'm never quite sure what any of it is. I know there's a piece of salmon1 in there. Some octopus2, or squid. Um, and then from that point on I'm not quite sure what anything else is, but it's all delicious, so I eat it all, and then we also have rolls, so we buy just different rolls. Actually, last week we tried natto. Have you ever tried that before?

Todd: Yeah, it's gross3.

Jessica: It's the most vile4, disgusting food you can ever possibly eat, so I definitely5 don't recommend that but.

Todd: Well, have you had uni?

Jessica: I have not.

Todd: Uni is gross. Uni is sea urchin6 and it looks like an orange tongue.

Jessica: Oh, I've seen that. Is that what that is?

Todd: Yeah, stay away from that.

Jessica: I will. I definitely will.

Learn Vocabulary from the lesson

sushi night

Tonight is going to be sushi night.

Putting '-night' after a food or activity shows that that is the plan for that evening. In this case it is a night for eating sushi. Notice the following:

Tonight is old movie night for us.

You know that Sunday is always football night.

never quite sure

I'm never quite what any of it is.

If you are not certain about something or you have questions about it then you are not 'quite sure' about it. Notice the following:

She is never quite sure exactly where places are in the city.

Although I order the same thing every time I'm never quite sure what I'm going to get.

from that point on

From that point on, I'm not sure what anything else is.

This phrase is used to describe what happens after a certain moment or action, from a specific and into the future. Notice the following:

She was basically7 sick from that point on.

From that point on I never trusted her.

rolls

We also have rolls with sushi.

In this case, 'rolls' refers to sushi rolls, or pieces which have rice, seaweed paper, sushi fish and maybe other vegetables. Notice the following:

My favorite roll has salmon and cucumber8.

I think we should get three or four different rolls.

vile

I think natto is the most vile, disgusting food there is.

If something tastes 'vile' is has an absolutely terrible taste. Notice the following:

Some of the health food drinks are absolutely vile.

I can't believe you can eat that, it's vile.
