give (somebody) one's word 約定

give sb one's word 表明“約定”的意思，主要用作 I give you my word (我向你保證)的形態(tài)。換句話說，可以理解成 I'll promise you,對于被承諾的一方，則是 take one's word。

例句：

I will give you my word I'll do what I can.

我向你保證，我會盡我所能的。

I will give you my word I will not touch her.

我向你保證，絕對不會碰她。

Can you give me your word that Jack can be trusted?

你能向我保證，杰克是個(gè)值得相信的人嗎?

對話：

A: Do you think Ralph finished the report?

你覺得拉斐爾寫完報(bào)告書了?

B: He gave me his word it would be completed.
