AFRAID IN THE DARK

害怕黑暗

"Willie, will you run upstairs, and get my needle book from the bureau?"

“威利，你能上樓幫我把寫(xiě)字臺(tái)上的針線(xiàn)盒拿下來(lái)嗎？”

But Willie did not stir. "Willie!" said mamma. She thought he had not heard.

但威利沒(méi)有動(dòng)靜。“威利！”媽媽叫道，她以為威利沒(méi)有聽(tīng)見(jiàn)。

"I'm afraid, " said Willie.

“我害怕！”威利說(shuō)。

"Afraid of what?"

“怕什么？”

"It's dark up there."

“那兒很暗。”

"What is the dark?" asked mamma. "See! It is nothing but a shadow."

“很暗？”媽媽問(wèn)，“看！這兒除了影子以外，什么都沒(méi)有。”

And she held her hand between the lamp and the workbasket on the table.

然后她把自己的手停在了臺(tái)燈和桌上的工具籃之間。

"Now it is dark in the basket; but as soon as I take my hand away, it is light."

“現(xiàn)在，籃子上有陰影了，但是當(dāng)我拿開(kāi)手時(shí)，就又亮了。”

"Come and stand between the lamp and the wall, Willie.

“過(guò)來(lái)，站在臺(tái)燈和墻中間?？矗?！

See! There is your shadow on the wall. Can your shadow hurt you?"

墻上有你的影子。 你的影子能傷到你嗎？”

"Oh no, mamma! I am sure it can not hurt me."

“噢，不能，媽媽。它肯定傷不到我。”

"Well, the dark is only a big shadow over everything."

“這就對(duì)了，黑暗只是每件東西后面的一個(gè)大影子。”

"What makes the big shadow, mamma?"

“媽媽?zhuān)鞘裁丛蛟斐闪诉@個(gè)大影子？”

"I will tell you all about that, Willie, when you are a little older.

“威利，等你再長(zhǎng)大一點(diǎn)兒時(shí)，我再告訴你吧。

But now, I wish you would find me a brave boy who is not afraid of shadows, to run upstairs and get my needlebook."

不過(guò)現(xiàn)在，我希望你成為一個(gè)不怕影子的勇敢男孩。上樓去把我的針線(xiàn)盒拿下來(lái)吧。”

"I am bravo, mamma. I will go. — Here it is."

“媽媽?zhuān)液馨簟Ｎ疫@就去。媽媽?zhuān)o你。”

"Thank you, my brave little man. You see the dark didn'thurt you."

“謝謝你，我勇敢的小男子漢。你看，黑暗沒(méi)有傷到你吧。”
