THE WOLF

狼來(lái)了

A boy was once taking care of some sheep, not far from a forest.

有一個(gè)小男孩曾經(jīng)在離森林不遠(yuǎn)的地方牧羊。

Near by was a village, and he was told to call for help if there was any danger.

他住的村子就在附近，人們告訴他如果碰到了危險(xiǎn)就趕緊大喊救命。

One day, in order to have some fun, he CRIed out, with all his might,"The wolf is coming! the wolf is coming!"

有一天，他為了找點(diǎn)樂(lè)趣，使出吃奶的勁大喊道：“狼來(lái)了！狼來(lái)了！”

The men came running with clubs and axes to destroy the wolf.

人們紛紛拿著棍棒和斧頭跑來(lái)，準(zhǔn)備對(duì)付大灰狼。

As they saw nothing they went home again, and left John laughing in his sleeve.

然而他們并沒(méi)有看到狼，于是就各自回家了，只留下約翰一個(gè)人捂袖偷笑。

As he had had so much fun this time, John CRIed out again, the next day, "The wolf! the wolf!"

由于這次的行為讓他感受到了諸多樂(lè)趣，于是，第二天約翰再次大喊：“狼來(lái)了！狼來(lái)了！”

The men came again, but not so many as the first time.

人們?cè)俅乌s來(lái)，但是已經(jīng)不如上次那么多人了。

Again they saw no trace of the wolf; so they shook their heads, and went back.

結(jié)果，他們發(fā)現(xiàn)自己又上當(dāng)了，根本沒(méi)看到什么狼，人們只得各自搖著頭回去了。

On the third day, the wolf came in earnest.

到了第三天，狼真的來(lái)了。

John CRIed in dismay, "Help! help! the wolf! the wolf!"

約翰驚慌失措地大喊道：“救命！救命！狼真的來(lái)了！狼真的來(lái)了！”

But not a single man came to help him.

但是，這一次沒(méi)有人前來(lái)幫他了。

The wolf broke into the flock, and killed a great many sheep.

狼沖進(jìn)了他的羊群，咬死了很多羊。

Among them was a beautiful lamb, which belonged to John.

而且，其中有一只溫順漂亮的小羊羔還是約翰的。

Then he felt very sorry that he had deceived his friends and neighbors, and grieved over the loss of his pet lamb.

終于，他為自己欺騙了朋友和鄰居深感懊悔，也為失去了這么多可愛的羊而哀悼。

The truth itself is not believed,From one who often has deceived.

經(jīng)常說(shuō)謊的人，即使說(shuō)出了真理，也無(wú)人相信！
