All day the low-hung clouds have dropped, their garnered fullness down;

低垂一天，云朵已經(jīng)落下，農(nóng)夫莊稼，亦已安然入倉。

All day that soft, gray mist hath wrapped hill, valley, grove, and town.

灰色霧靄，萬般繾綣裹住，山丘溝谷，灌叢還有村莊。

There has not been a sound today to break the calm of nature;

今天，我未曾聽到那種聲音，可以打破，自然萬物的寂靜；

Nor motion, I might almost say,

亦沒聽見，或許我可以說，

Of life or living creature;

漫長(zhǎng)一天，沒有生命的韻律。

Of waving bough, or warbling bird,

樹干沒有搖晃，鳥兒沒有囀鳴，

Or cattle faintly lowing;

牛群，沒有低聲哞叫，

I could have half believed I heard the leaves and blossoms growing.

枝葉生長(zhǎng)，或者花朵綻開，我半信半疑，沒有紋絲動(dòng)靜。

I stood to hear—I love it well—

默默站著聆聽，我太愛這些聲音，

The rain's continuous sound;

雨，接連不停地刷刷，

Small drops, but thick and fast they fell,

碎細(xì)身影，密集落下，

Down straight into the ground.

徑直一跤，跌進(jìn)土里長(zhǎng)大。

For leafy thickness is not yet Earth's naked breast to screen,

大地赤裸的胸膛，尚未舒展，綠葉沙沙，鋪成天空的旗幟，

Though every dripping branch is set with shoots of tender green.

此刻，每一根濕漉漉的枝干，都會(huì)萌發(fā)，植物的微觀思考。

Sure, since I looked, at early morn,

曙光初露，美麗的金銀花，

Those honeysuckle buds have swelled to double growth;

星光點(diǎn)綴，骨朵又見豐滿，含苞待放；

that thorn hath put forth larger studs.

亭亭玉立的枝杈，轉(zhuǎn)眼冒出，深淺不一的嫩芽。
