贊同、反對和妥協(xié) Agreeing, Disagreeing, and Compromising

在日常生活中,我們要接觸各種類型的人,當然也包括要接觸(in contact)那些不同類型的人和想法不一樣的人。不贊同并不是要聲嘶力竭、怒發(fā)沖冠。和一個與你觀點背道而馳的人彬彬有禮(polite)地討論是需要技巧和實踐鍛煉的(skill and practice)。

表達贊同

贊同別人的觀點,除了可以說“I agree with you”以外,還有其他很多種說法。你也可以用“absolutely”“exactly”“no doubt”等副詞或短語來增強肯定語氣。

☉I agree with you 100 percent.That’s so true.

我百分之百贊同,那是正確無誤的。

☉I couldn't agree with you more.

我完全贊同您。

☉Tell me about it!

給我說說吧。

☉No doubt about it.You're absolutely right.

毋庸置疑,您完全正確。

☉Absolutely.You have a point there.

毫無疑問,您說得有道理。

☉That’s for sure.That's exactly how I feel.

那當然。跟我想的完全一樣。

☉Exactly.I was just going to say that.

沒錯,我正想這么說。

☉I'm afraid I agree with James.

我贊同詹姆斯。

☉I have to side with Daniel on this one.

在這個問題上,我站在丹尼爾一邊。

☉(Agree with negative statement)Me neither.

(同意某否定意見)我也不(同意)。

表達不贊同

給別人表述觀點(speak his mind)的機會。傾聽會讓你把注意力集中(focus on)到對話的內容上。即便你根本不同意對方的觀點,你也要通過積極關注(being attentive)來表達你的尊敬。

☉No way.I totally disagree.

行不通,我完全反對。

☉I’m not so sure about that.That’s not always the case.

我不這么看。不總是那樣的。

☉I’m afraid I disagree.That’s not always true.

我恐怕無法茍同。并非總是如此。

☉I totally disagree.

☉I’d say the exact opposite.

我認為正好相反。

☉I beg to differ.

恕我不敢茍同。

未必。

打斷

平心靜氣地討論,不要指名道姓,惡語中傷。要溫和體貼(courteous and consideration),引導對方向你的觀點靠攏,在甩出自己的觀點時也要兼顧對方的感受。退出的時候要做到承上啟下,保持禮貌。

☉Can I add something here?

我能補充兩句嗎?

☉Is it okay if I jump in for a second?

如果你們不介意的話,我能插句話嗎?

☉If I might add something……

我能否補充點……

☉Can I throw my two-cents in?

我能否表達一下我的想法?

☉Sorry to interrupt, but……

很抱歉打斷你了,但是……

☉(After accidentally interrupting someone)Sorry, go ahead./Sorry, you were saying……

(在偶然打斷某人后)對不起,請繼續(xù)。/對不起,您剛才說……

☉(After being interrupted.)You didn’t let me finish.

(在被打斷之后)你剛才沒有讓我說完。

妥協(xié)或轉換話題

當討論迷失方向(leading nowhere)時就該轉換話題了。如果雙方都已掃興就沒有必要繼續(xù)下去了。禮貌地請求對方或者自己主動換一個有趣的話題,也可以直接說想休息一下。

☉Let's just move on, shall we?

讓我們談些別的,行嗎?

☉Let's drop it.

讓我們先到此為止吧。

☉I think we're going to have to agree to disagree.

我想我們只好各持己見了。

☉Whatever you say.

你說什么就是什么吧。

☉If you say so.

就按你說的吧。

總結

“理不辯則不明”,無論你是否贊同對方的觀點,都應當是“君子之爭”。要別人心悅誠服,就得先當謙謙君子,以理服人。即便是不贊同別人的觀點,也要認真傾聽,理解其出發(fā)點。如果沒有談下去的必要,就審時度勢,調整話題,畢竟“友誼第一”。

A:Oh, I didn't realize that.

B:Me neither.

C:And if you don't mind, can I throw my two-cents in?I think that if the management did ask Daniel Barnes to lead the Sales Department, he might do a better job than Barney Daniels!

A:I totally disagree. I know Barney pretty well.I think he's pretty qualified.

B:I'm afraid I agree with James. I have to side with Barney on this one.

A:The open house needs to take place next week. We've got to jump on this right away, or we might lose the opportunity.

B:No way. I totally disagree.There is no way that we can get the property ready by next week. There are so many repairs that must be made;the carpeting needs to be replaced, and all the rooms need to be repainted.It takes time to make a house presentable to buyers.If we show the house before it's ready we'll lose opportunity.

A:I'm not so sure about that. It's not always the case that buyers want a finished product. Many investors are looking for a fix-me-up.The hot new thing is buying houses that need a little work and making a turn-around profit on the resale.

B:I'm afraid I disagree. Maybe in last year's real estate market you might be able to load off a fixer-upper. But that's not always true in today's economic climate.Nowadays people are more selective.

A:I'd say the exact opposite. The economic downturn is the perfect time for people to pick up foreclosed properties at a fraction of their actual value. Investment in real estate is hot right now.We've got to move on this property or we're gonna be outta luck.

B:Not necessarily. I still think we should wait.

B:未必。我仍然覺得我們應該等。
