Palestinians clashed with Israeli security forces yesterday as US president Donald Trump’s decision to recognise Jerusalem as the capital of Israel triggered protests and calls by militant groups for an intifada, or uprising.

巴勒斯坦人昨日與以色列軍警發(fā)生沖突。美國總統(tǒng)唐納德•特朗普(Donald Trump)承認(rèn)耶路撒冷為以色列首都的決定引發(fā)了抗議，一些激進(jìn)組織呼吁發(fā)動起義。

Protesters in West Bank cities including Ramallah set tyres on fire and threw stones at Israeli troops while in Bethlehem troops fired water cannon and tear gas to disperse demonstrators.

拉馬拉(Ramallah)等約旦河西岸(West Bank)城市的抗議者焚燒輪胎，并向以色列軍人投擲石頭，而在伯利恒(Bethlehem)，以軍部隊用水炮和催淚彈來驅(qū)散示威者。

The UN Security Council is expected to meet today after eight countries, including permanent council members France and the UK, asked António Guterres, the secretary-general, for a briefing on Mr Trump’s decision.

The EU’s top diplomat warned the Israel-Palestinian conflict could descend into “even darker times”. Speaking in Brussels, Federica Mogherini, the EU’s foreign affairs chief, said the US announcement “has a very worrying potential impact” for peace in the region.

歐盟最高外交官警告稱，以巴沖突可能陷入“更黑暗的時代”。歐盟外交事務(wù)負(fù)責(zé)人費(fèi)代里卡•莫蓋里尼(Federica Mogherini)在布魯塞爾發(fā)表講話時表示，美國的宣布給該地區(qū)的和平“具有非常令人擔(dān)憂的潛在影響”。

Palestinian militant group Hamas called for a new uprising against Israel.

巴勒斯坦激進(jìn)組織哈馬斯(Hamas)呼吁對以色列發(fā)動一場新起義。

That call was backed by Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hizbollah, the Lebanese militant movement allied to Iran. Mr Nasrallah said “the Arab and Islamic world should provide all of its moral, political, financial and arms support to the Palestinian people in their new intifada”.

這一呼吁得到了伊朗的盟友、黎巴嫩武裝組織真主黨(Hizbollah)領(lǐng)袖哈桑•納斯魯拉(Hassan Nasrallah)的支持。納斯魯拉稱“阿拉伯和伊斯蘭世界應(yīng)該為發(fā)動新起義的巴勒斯坦人民提供一切道義、政治、財力和武器支持”。
