菲律賓棉蘭老島戒嚴(yán)將延期一年

The Philippines parliament voted in favour of President Rodrigo Duterte’s request to extend martial law over the southern island of Mindanao for a year on Wednesday following the end of a battle there with an Isis-linked insurgency in October.

菲律賓議會(huì)對(duì)菲律賓總統(tǒng)羅德里戈•杜特爾特(Rodrigo Duterte)周三提出的將菲律賓南部棉蘭老島(Mindanao)的戒嚴(yán)令延長(zhǎng)1年的要求投了贊成票。此前該地區(qū)爆發(fā)的與伊斯蘭國(guó)(ISIS)有關(guān)的戰(zhàn)斗在10月結(jié)束。

Mr Duterte in May imposed martial law over the island after violence broke out in the city of Marawi involving an Islamist alliance that attempted to establish a caliphate in Southeast Asia.

The five-month siege saw more than 1,000 people killed, including dozens of civilians, and more than 350,000 people displaced.

While the Philippines government announced the end of the conflict in late October – after the military killed the insurgents’ two key leaders – Mr Duterte sought the extension in order to continue targeting people linked to the groups.
