A Norwegian Airlines Boeing 787 Dreamliner was a nightmare for a village near Rome when debris from the plane struck one person, 25 vehicles and a dozen homes, according to reports.

Fragments rained down “like bullets” shortly after the airliner took off from Fiumicino Aiport on Saturday for a flight to Los Angeles and the pilots declared an emergency after reaching 3,000 feet, according to the Independent.

The glowing metal shards fell onto the Isola Sacra area south of the city, striking a resident, who suffered minor burns, as well as the vehicles and multiple houses.

Norwegian said the plane had “indications of a technical failure of one of the engines,” Business Insider reported. The plane, with 298 passengers aboard, landed safely.

It is believed the debris fell from one of the two engines, Rolls-Royce Trent 1000s that have been plagued with problems, according to Forbes.
