我是一名華裔越南難民的女兒

I'm the daughter of chinese vietnamese refugees

我的父母剛來(lái)到這個(gè)國(guó)家時(shí)并沒(méi)有太多的錢(qián)

my parents didn't come to this country with much

我的母親工作時(shí)間很長(zhǎng) 一人做多份工作

my mother she worked long hours and multiple jobs

為了確保我和妹妹們有獲得最好的機(jī)會(huì)的可能

to make sure that my sisters and I had the best opportunities possible

這些老師激發(fā)了我的學(xué)習(xí)熱情

those teachers instilled in me a passion for learning

我的父母堅(jiān)信教育的作用

my family believed in education 

但他們并不了解學(xué)校的系統(tǒng)

but didn't understand the school systems

所以只能把我和妹妹的我未來(lái)交到老師的手里

so they trusted our teachers with my sister my future

尤其是自然科學(xué)

and particularly in science

那天的項(xiàng)目結(jié)束之后

after program that day

意識(shí)到我自己是多么的幸運(yùn)

realizing that i was incredibly lucky to be where

激發(fā)和持續(xù)鞭策我去確保其他人

sparked and continues to drive me to ensure that others

regardless of background

有一天輔導(dǎo)員找我?guī)兔?/p>

one day a school counselor came to me

尋找一個(gè)缺課好幾天的學(xué)生

looking for a student that had missed several days of school 

我去了操場(chǎng)

I stepped out and went to the playground

很快就找到她了

and found her immediately

她的兩顆門(mén)牙斷了

her two front teeth were broken 

所以覺(jué)得會(huì)很沒(méi)面子被別人看到的話(huà)

and she was ashamed to be seen 

我明白了她不去上學(xué)的原因

I saw why she hadn't been to school

我內(nèi)心充滿(mǎn)疑惑的是

my heart and mind were flooded with questions 

她到底怎么了

what had happened to her

她受傷了嗎

was she hurt 

他的牙齒被感染了嗎

was her teeth infected

我能做些什么來(lái)防止這些發(fā)生

what could have I have done to prevent this

最后一個(gè)讓我難受的是

that last question crushed me

問(wèn)題非常簡(jiǎn)單

it the question is simply simple

但答案卻如此復(fù)雜

but the answer is so complex

我沒(méi)有解決的方法

I had no tools to tackle 

我們是否可以共同努力

can we all together work 

去治愈 預(yù)防 控制所有的疾病

to cure preventer manage all disease 

在我們孩子的有生之年

within our children's lifetime

馬克和我都相信這是有可能的在我們孩子生活的那個(gè)年代

mark and I believe that this is possible within our children's lifetime

當(dāng)然 做這個(gè)不能單靠我們自己

of course we can't do this alone 

因此我們現(xiàn)在

so today

我們和科學(xué)家 醫(yī)生 工程師還有大學(xué)合作

we're partnering with scientists doctors engineers and universities 

來(lái)達(dá)到這個(gè)目標(biāo)

to achieve this goal

對(duì)于這個(gè)項(xiàng)目

for this initiative

我們將投資超過(guò)30億美元在未來(lái)十年中

we will be investing more than 3 billion dollars over the next decade

來(lái)完成我們共同的使命

to achieve our collective mission
