今天我們要講的一個(gè)美國(guó)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)是：The proof is in the pudding。Proof就是證明， pudding是西菜里的一種甜點(diǎn)，中文翻成布丁。 The proof is in the pudding，意思是說(shuō)，這布丁好不好吃， 只有吃了以后才知道。 也就是中國(guó)人常說(shuō)的， 實(shí)踐是真正的檢驗(yàn)。The proof is in the pudding這個(gè)道理可以用在日常生活的各個(gè)方面。

比如說(shuō)，你的朋友推薦你用一種洗發(fā)液，你怎么知道這個(gè)產(chǎn)品好用不好用呢?看廣告或是聽(tīng)推銷員的介紹并不可靠。這種洗發(fā)液適合不適合你，只有親自用一下才知道。這就是：The proof is in the pudding。

下面我們來(lái)聽(tīng)一個(gè)例句。這是一位公司主管在對(duì)銷售部門的雇員講話。

例句-1：I have to say I didn't really like your sexy approach to selling our product, but the proof is in the pudding, and our market share has grown. So I have to conclude that you know exactly what you're doing, and keep up the good work!

這位主管說(shuō)： 我得說(shuō)我原來(lái)并不喜歡你們那種浮夸的推銷方式。不過(guò)銷售的結(jié)果證明你們的做法很好;我們的市場(chǎng)份額增加了。所以我得出的結(jié)論就是， 你們是知道該怎么作的，各位就再接再勵(lì)吧。

The proof is in the pudding這個(gè)習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)在14世紀(jì)就出現(xiàn)了，不過(guò)當(dāng)時(shí)人們說(shuō)的是：the proof of the pudding is in the eating。后來(lái)才逐漸演變成現(xiàn)在的說(shuō)法：the proof is in the pudding。不過(guò)兩種說(shuō)法的意思是一樣的，都是說(shuō)只有實(shí)踐才能說(shuō)明好不好。
