托福寫(xiě)作之四：Adjectives and Word Order

高分作文對(duì)事物的描寫(xiě)更為多樣而且富于創(chuàng)造性。

在寫(xiě)作中運(yùn)用形容詞最棘手的事情就是不同形容詞的排列順序。

大家看下圖：

The general order of adjectives before a noun is the following:

包含形容詞及名詞的短語(yǔ)中詞語(yǔ)要遵循下列順序：

opinion(1st)>size(2nd)>shape(3rd)>condition(4th)>age(5th)>color(6th)>pattern(7th)>origin(8th)> material(9th)>purpose(10th)>noun

在上圖中，有三類(lèi)形容詞沒(méi)有列出：

adjectives of order 表示順序的形容詞(first, second, third, last, etc…)，adjectives of frequency 表示頻率的形容詞(frequent, infrequent, rare, common, etc…)，adjectives of degree 表示程度的形容詞(extreme, a little, somewhat, very, etc…)

這三類(lèi)形容詞出現(xiàn)時(shí)，要放在其他形容詞前。表示順序的形容詞放在首位，表示頻率的形容詞放在第二位，表示程度的形容詞放在第三位，要遵循以下順序：

order(1st)>frequency(2nd)>degree(3rd)>opinion(4th)>size(5th)>shape(6th)>condition(7th)>age(8th)>color(9th)>pattern(10th)>origin(11th)>material(12th)>purpose(13th)>noun

形容詞的排列順序看上去復(fù)雜，混亂。但當(dāng)大家在寫(xiě)作時(shí)運(yùn)用多個(gè)不同的形容詞時(shí)，要按照上面的順序排列，否則native English speakers會(huì)不理解。

如果一個(gè)名詞，需要用到上面所有13種形容詞修飾的話(huà)，句子就會(huì)顯得冗長(zhǎng)，所以一般情況就是采用若干個(gè)形容詞，要用多個(gè)形容詞的話(huà)，形容詞的順序就一定要正確，否則描述會(huì)非常不自然，很難理解。

Example:

This is the first uncommon, very strange, humongous, round, worn-out, ancient, dark, grooved Korean clay food-storing pottery I’ve ever seen.

Native English speaker很容易理解上面的這個(gè)句子，因?yàn)樾稳菰~的排列順序都是對(duì)的，而且每個(gè)形容詞間都加了逗號(hào)，所以理解起來(lái)并不困難。

This is the uncommon, strange, dark, humongous, food-storing, grooved, clay, Korean, first worn-out, ancient, round, very pottery I’ve ever seen.

但如果改變一下形容詞的順序，就很難理解，讀著也不通順。
