As many of you here today have worked in the hotel industry for some time, I'm sure you have experienced the problem of high staff turnover in your hotels. Every hotel relies on having loyal and experienced members of staff who make sure that everything runs smoothly. 

今天在座的許多人已經(jīng)在酒店業(yè)工作了一段時間,我相信你們都經(jīng)歷過酒店員工流動率高的問題。每家酒店都依賴于忠誠且經(jīng)驗豐富的員工,以確保一切順利運行。

If staff are constantly changing, it can make life difficult for everyone. But why do staff leave frequently in many hotels? Of course, many hotel jobs, such as cleaning, are low skilled and are not well paid. 

如果員工不斷更換,每個人都會感到困難。但為什么許多酒店的員工經(jīng)常離職呢?當(dāng)然,許多酒店工作,如清潔工,技能要求低,工資也不高。

A lot of managers think it's this, and the long hours, that are the main causes of high staff turnover. But what they don't realise is that it's the lack of training in many hotel jobs which is a huge factor.

許多經(jīng)理認為,這是員工流動率高的主要原因,而且工作時間長。但他們沒有意識到,許多酒店工作缺乏培訓(xùn)是一個重要因素。

So, what kind of problems does a high turnover of staff cause? Well, having to recruit new staff all the time can be very time consuming, and managers may have to cover some duties while waiting for new staff to arrive. 

那么,員工流動率高會帶來什么樣的問題呢?嗯,一直招聘新員工會非常耗時,經(jīng)理們在等待新員工到來時可能需要承擔(dān)一些職責(zé)。

This means they don't have time to think about less immediate problems, such as how to improve their service. When staff leave, it can also severely affect the colleagues they leave behind. It has a negative effect on remaining staff, who may start to feel that they too should be thinking about leaving.

這意味著他們沒有時間考慮不那么緊迫的問題,比如如何改善服務(wù)。當(dāng)員工離職時,也會嚴重影響他們留下的同事。這對留下的員工產(chǎn)生了負面影響,他們可能會開始覺得自己也應(yīng)該考慮離開。

So, what can be done to change this situation? Firstly, managers should stop making basic errors which leave their staff feeling upset and resentful. When organizing shifts, for example, make sure you never give certain staff preferential treatment. 

那么,如何才能改變這種情況呢?首先,管理人員應(yīng)該停止犯下讓員工感到不安和怨恨的基本錯誤。例如,在安排輪班時,確保不要給某些員工提供優(yōu)待。

All staff should be given some choice about when they work, and everyone should have to work some evening and weekend shifts. If you treat staff fairly, they'll be more likely to step in and help when extra staff are needed. Keeping staff happy has other tangible benefits for the business. 

所有員工都應(yīng)該有選擇工作時間的權(quán)利,每個人都應(yīng)該上一些晚班和周末班。如果你公平地對待員工,當(dāng)需要額外員工時,他們會更有可能介入并提供幫助。讓員工開心對企業(yè)還有其他切實的好處。

Take the Donage Hotel as an example. It had been experiencing a problem with staff complaints, and in order to deal with this, invested in staff training and improved staff conditions. Not only did the level of complaints fall, but they also noticed a significant increase in the amount each customer spent during their stay. They have now introduced a customer loyalty scheme, which is going really well.
