Catherine: I have to roll with the punches? But I haven't seen any punches in our company, what can I do?
凱瑟琳：圍著打孔機(jī)轉(zhuǎn)悠？我沒(méi)看到有什么打孔機(jī)啊，我又能做什么呢？

Tom: It's a metaphor, my dear! "Roll with the punches" means "to be able to deal with a series of difficult situations".
珍妮：親愛(ài)的，這是個(gè)比喻好不好！roll with the punches這個(gè)俚語(yǔ)說(shuō)的是能處理一系列困難局面。

punch這個(gè)詞除了有”打孔機(jī)“的意思，還有”打擊“之意；roll意思是”滾動(dòng)，來(lái)回轉(zhuǎn)悠“，roll with the punches從字面看，是說(shuō)當(dāng)遭受打擊時(shí)，你得翻著身子來(lái)迎接。不難看出，這是沒(méi)辦法的辦法，既然避免不了，那挨打也得會(huì)挨呀，盡量讓疼痛減輕唄！所以，roll with the punches這個(gè)俚語(yǔ)的比喻義就是”逆來(lái)順受，適應(yīng)形勢(shì)以使自己獲得生存“。以后如果有朋友遇到類似難以避免的困境，你就可以安慰他說(shuō)：You have to roll with the punches if you want to survive in this business.如果你想在這一行生存下去的話，你得逆來(lái)順受。
