公司是否該合并、是否該涉足新產(chǎn)業(yè)，這種讓回答“Yes /No”都格外困難的抉擇其實不少。如果你是公司決策者，要向員工宣布一個“重要而難解”的問題，該怎么用英文描述？

1 　the million dollar question　重要卻很難回答的問題

英國廣播公司（BBC）曾以“Being better or worse off in an independent Scotland is the million dollar question…”為引言，探討蘇格蘭獨立后會更好還是更差。the million dollar question直譯是“百萬元的問題”，引申為“重要卻難回答的問題”。

例：

The million dollar question is: should we give up what we have and explore the new market?（是否該放棄現(xiàn)有的一切投入新市場？這是我們都想知道卻難以回答的問題。）

2 　in a quandary　面臨一項困難的抉擇

美國《華爾街日報》（The Wall Street Journal ）針對蘇格蘭獨立報道，有一句話：“Scottish nationalists are in a quandary: how to dissolve the three-century bond with the United Kingdom while preserving their monetary link with the British pound.”quandary是可數(shù)名詞，指“困惑、窘境”，當(dāng)你“處于不易做決定的情況”時，就可以說I'm in a quandary。

例：

Redundancy is an effective but painful way to solve the company's financial problem. The chairman is in a quandary.（解決公司的財務(wù)問題，裁員是有效但痛苦的方式。董事長面臨著艱難的抉擇。）

3 　hang in the balance　難以預(yù)料

加拿大《環(huán)球郵報》（The Globe and Mail ）曾有一則標(biāo)題“Britain's‘family of nations’ hangs in the balance”，點出蘇格蘭是否從英國獨立出來處于未定之天。如果一件事的未來發(fā)展混沌不明，讓人無法預(yù)知，就可以用hang in the balance。

例：

The US tech slowdown began and clobbered our clients. The future for the company hangs in the balance.（美國科技產(chǎn)業(yè)開始衰退，重創(chuàng)了我們的客戶，公司的未來難以預(yù)料。）
