輪到卡萊爾擊球，愛德華捕球的時候，愛麗絲忽然喘息起來。像往常一樣，我的眼睛始終盯著愛德華，我看見他猛地抬起頭，看著她。他們對視著，瞬間用眼神交流著某些事情。在別人還沒來得及開口問愛麗絲發(fā)生了什么事時，他已經站在了我身邊。
"Alice?" Esme's voice was tense.
“愛麗絲?”艾思梅的聲音很緊張。
"I didn't see , I couldn't tell," she whispered.
“我看不見——我說不準。”她耳語著。
All the others were gathered by this time.
這時所有人都聚攏了過來。
"What is it, Alice?" Carlisle asked with the calm voice of authority.
“怎么回事，愛麗絲?”卡萊爾用充滿威信的冷靜的語氣問道。
"They were traveling much quicker than I thought. I can see I had the perspective wrongbefore," she murmured.
“他們移動得比我預計的還要快，我看見我之前的預計出錯了。”她低聲說著。
Jasper leaned over her, his posture protective. "What changed?" he asked.
賈斯帕向她俯下身去，做出保護性的姿勢：“什么情況變了?”他問道。
"They heard us playing, and it changed their path," she said, contrite, as if she felt responsiblefor whatever had frightened her.
“他們聽到我們在打球，于是改變了路線。”她懊悔地說著，就好像她覺得她對某些嚇著了她的事情責任重大。
Seven pairs of quick eyes flashed to my face and away.
七雙敏捷的眼睛同時瞄向我，隨即移開了。
"How soon?" Carlisle said, turning toward Edward.
“還有多久?”卡萊爾說著，轉向愛德華。
A look of intense concentration crossed his face.
一種緊繃的全神貫注的神情掠過他的臉。
"Less than five minutes. They're running — they want to play." He scowled.
“不到五分鐘。他們在奔跑——他們想加入比賽。”他陰沉著臉說道。
"Can you make it?" Carlisle asked him, his eyes flicking toward me again.
“你能趕上嗎?”卡萊爾問他，他的眼睛再次瞥了我一眼。
"No, not carrying —" He cut short. "Besides, the last thing we need is for them to catch thescent and start hunting."
“不能，如果不帶著——”他打住了話頭。“還有，我們最不需要的事情就是讓他們聞到味道然后開始狩獵。”
"How many?" Emmett asked Alice.
“有幾個人?”艾美特問愛麗絲。
