give someone the runaround 是一句比較流行的美式習慣用語，單看runaround是由run和around組合而來，可聯(lián)想為“領著別人到處跑”，進而引申為“回避，搪塞”，所以這個短語的意思是：“敷衍塞責，搪塞某人”。因此，當美國人說"Don't give me the runaround again."時，他/她要表達的意思就是:"Don't stall me off with such unreasonable excuses."、"Don't just pay lip-service to me."。
