獅子和老鼠

A lion was awakened from sleep by a mouse runningover his face.

獅子躺在草地上睡覺(jué)，一只老鼠跑來(lái)，在它的身邊繞來(lái)繞去，把它吵醒了。

Rising up in anger, he caught the mouse and wasabout to kill him

獅子很生氣，一把抓住老鼠，打算把它殺死。

when the mouse piteously entreated, saying,

老鼠渾身發(fā)抖，結(jié)結(jié)巴巴地哀求:

"If you would only spare my life, I would be sure to repay your kindness"

"獅......子大王，求求你......放了我吧，日后......我一定會(huì)報(bào)答......你的。"

The lion laughed and let him go.

獅子覺(jué)得好笑，于是放了它。

It happened shortly after this that the lion was caught by some hunters,

幾天后，獅子被獵人抓住，

who bound him by strong ropes to the ground.

被繩子綁著躺在地上動(dòng)彈不得。

The mouse,recognizing his roar,came up,

老鼠聽(tīng)到它的吼叫聲，悄悄地爬到獅子身上，

and gnawed the rope with his teeth,and set him free,and exclaimed,

用牙齒把繩子咬斷救了它，并感嘆道:

"You ridiculed the idea of my ever being able to help you,

"你曾嘲笑過(guò)我，以為你我不能幫助你，

not expecting to receive from me any repayment of your favor;

也沒(méi)想過(guò)有朝一日能得到回報(bào)，

but now you know

但現(xiàn)在你明白了

that it is possible for even a mouse to confer benefits on a lion."

即使是無(wú)用的小老鼠，也可能救獅子一命。"
