Dear Children of Troy:
親愛的特洛伊孩子們：
Your librarian has asked me to write, telling you what a library can mean to you.
你們的圖書管理員讓我寫封信，告訴你們圖書館于你們而言意味著什么。
A library is many things. It's a place to go, to get in out of the rain.
圖書館是許多東西。你們可以來這里，遮風(fēng)避雨。
It's a place to go if you want to sit and think.
你們可以來這里，靜坐冥想。
But particularly it is a place where books live, and where you can get in touch with other people, and other thoughts, through books.
更可貴的是，這個地方藏書萬千，在這里，你可以通過閱讀認(rèn)識其他人，接觸到其他的思想。
If you want to find out about something, the information is in the reference books---the dictionaries, the encyclopedias, the atlases.
如果你想了解某些事物，不妨借助一些參考書中——字典、百科全書、地圖冊查閱信息。
If you like to be told a story, the library is the place to go.
如果你喜歡聽別人講故事，圖書館更是不二之選。
Books hold most of the secrets of the world, most of the thoughts that men and women have had.

And when you are reading a book, you and the author are alone together---just the two of you.
當(dāng)你沉迷于閱讀時，全世界只剩下你和作者兩人獨處。
A library is a good place to go when you feel unhappy, for there, in a book, you may find encouragement and comfort.
當(dāng)你抑郁或心情低落時，圖書館是個療傷的好去處，因為在那里，恣意徜徉在書海中，你能獲得鼓勵和慰藉。
A library is a good place to go when you feel bewildered or undecided, for there, in a book, you may have your question answered.
當(dāng)你困惑或猶豫不決時，圖書館是個解惑的好去處，因為在那里，盡情攀登知識的階梯，你的疑惑可能會迎刃而解。
Books are good company, in sad times and happy times, for books are people---people who have managed to stay alive by hiding between the covers of a book.
無論悲傷或者快樂，書籍永遠(yuǎn)是歲月長河中最忠實的伙伴，因為所謂“書籍”——是那些藏身封面間并設(shè)法生存下來的智者。
