泰戈?duì)枴缎略录返?0期:最后的買賣 THE LAST BARGAIN

《新月集》 (The Crescent Moon，1903)是印度詩人、作家泰戈?duì)杽?chuàng)作的詩集，主要譯自1903年出版的孟加拉文詩集《兒童集》，也有的是用英文直接創(chuàng)作的。 詩集里著力描繪的是一個(gè)個(gè)天真可愛的兒童。詩人塑造了一批神形兼?zhèn)?、熠熠閃光的天使般的兒童藝術(shù)形象。

在《新月集》中，詩人書寫了孩子純凈的心靈。孩子們喜歡玩簡單的小游戲，且樂此不疲。“他們用沙子建造房屋，他們用空貝殼游戲。”“孩子，你多么快樂，整個(gè)早晨坐在塵土里，玩著一根折斷的小樹枝。”孩子們有著奇妙的想象，“如果我鬧著玩兒，變成一朵金香木花，長在那樹的高枝上，在風(fēng)中笑得搖搖擺擺，在新生嫩葉上跳舞，媽媽，你認(rèn)得出是我嗎?”此外，《新月集》也描寫了孩子和母親的感情。“他知道慈母心中小小一角就可以容納無窮的歡樂，被母親逮住了緊抱在她慈愛的雙臂里，遠(yuǎn)比自由甜蜜。”在詩人的筆下，詩中的母親帶有一種圣潔的光輝。

40 最后的買賣 THE LAST BARGAIN

"COME and hire me," I cried, while in the morning I was walking on the stone-paved road.

早晨，我在石鋪的路上走時(shí)，我叫道：“誰來雇用我呀。”

Sword in hand, the King came in his chariot.

皇帝坐著馬車，手里拿著劍走來。

He held my hand and said, "I will hire you with my power."

But his power counted for nought, and he went away in his chariot.

但是他的權(quán)力算不了什么，他坐著馬車走了。

In the heat of the midday the houses stood with shut doors.

I wandered along the crooked lane.

我沿著屈曲的小巷走去。

An old man came out with his bag of gold.

He pondered and said, "I will hire you with my money."

He weighed his coins one by one, but I turned away.

The sun glistened on the sand, and the sea waves broke waywardly.

A child sat playing with shells.

He raised his head and seemed to know me, and said, "I hire you with nothing."

他抬起頭來，好像認(rèn)識(shí)我似的，說道：“我雇你不用什么東西。”

From thenceforward that bargain struck in child's play made me a free man.

從此以后，在這個(gè)小孩的游戲中做成的買賣，使我成了一個(gè)自由的人。
