Arms Sale to Taiwan

 

問：8月4日，美國國防部國防合作安全局發(fā)布消息稱，美國務院已批準向臺出售總價7.5億美元的40套中型自行榴彈炮系統(tǒng)及相關設備。請問中方對此有何評論？

Q：The Pentagon's Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced on August 4 that the US State Department approved the sale of 40 Medium Self-Propelled Howitzer artillery systems to Taiwan in a deal valued at $750 million. Does foreign ministry have any comment?

答：臺灣是中國領土不可分割的一部分。美國向臺灣出售武器，干涉中國內政，損害中國主權和安全利益，違背國際法和國際關系基本準則，更違反一個中國原則和中美三個聯(lián)合公報特別是“八·一七”公報規(guī)定，向“臺獨”分裂勢力發(fā)出錯誤信號，嚴重損害中美關系和臺海和平穩(wěn)定。中方對此堅決反對，已向美方提出嚴正交涉。

A: Taiwan is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory. The United States interferes in China's internal affairs and undermines China's sovereignty and security interests by selling arms to the Taiwan region. It runs counter to international law and basic principles in international relations, and violates the one-China principle and provisions of the three China-US joint communiques, especially the August 17 Communique. It sends wrong signals to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces, and severely jeopardizes China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China is firmly opposed to this and has lodged solemn representations with the US side.

中方敦促美方重信守諾，切實恪守一個中國原則和中美三個聯(lián)合公報規(guī)定，停止售臺武器和美臺軍事聯(lián)系，立即撤銷有關對臺軍售計劃，以免進一步損害中美關系和臺海和平穩(wěn)定。中方將根據(jù)形勢發(fā)展堅決采取正當、必要反制措施。

China urges the US side to honor its commitment, earnestly abide by the one-China principle and the three China-US joint communiques, stop arms sales to and military interactions with Taiwan, and immediately revoke relevant arms sales to Taiwan, lest it should cause more damages to China-US relations and peace and stability across the Taiwan Strait. China will resolutely take legitimate and necessary counter-measures in light of the development of the situation.
