第十四章 介詞 toward (s）和under 的用法

　　l. towards (美國有作toward):

　　l)向著，撇向：

　　A boy came running towars us.

　　一個男孩向我們跑來。

　　He was now walking towars the river.

　　這時他向河邊走去。

　　She is taking courses toward a master's degree.

　　她正在修碩士學位的課程。

　　2)快到(某時):

　　Towards one o'clock they reached home.

　　快到一點時他們回到家里。

　　She came to see me towards the end of the week.

　　快到周末時她來看我。

　　It's getting on towards the end of term now.

　　現(xiàn)在己快到期末了。

　　3)對于：

　　The teacher was very lenient towards us.

　　老師對我們很松。

　　He has changed his attitude towards the work.

　　他改變了對工作的態(tài)度。

　　She had no ill feeling towards him now.

　　她現(xiàn)在對他沒有惡感了。

　　2. under:

　　l)在……下方(面):

　　They are cooling themselves under the trees.

　　他們正在樹下乘涼。

　　He had a book under his arm.

　　他腋下夾了一本書。

　　Please push the stool under the bed.

　　請把凳子推到床底下。

　　2)(用于引申意義) 在……之下：

　　All their activities were put under unified command.

　　他們的一切活動都置于統(tǒng)一指揮之下。

　　All places of strategic importance came under their ocupation.

　　所有戰(zhàn)略要地都被他們占領。

　　We did that under orders.

　　我們是奉命行事。

　　3)(引起短語作表語)表示主語所處狀態(tài)等：

　　The road was undder repair.

　　路正在修。

　　The proposal is now under discussion.

　　提案正在討論。

　　I'm a bit under the weather.

　　我有點不舒服。

　　In 2040 Venice will be under water.

　　2040年威尼斯將會被水淹沒。
