[正] The visit to London allowed him to settle his business with the lawyers.

注：雖然afford 與 chance 或opportunity 等連用時，含有“使......有機會做......”的意思，但afford 本身并不表示“allow”(容許，許可)的意思，所以本句不能用afford，而要用allow。再者，afford 不能用于afford sb. to do sth.(如誤句)的結構中，而allow sb. to do sth.則是常見的。
